Paul Smith is currently the UNITED KINGDOM RACE TEAM RACE CO-ORDINATOR & SHIPPER and he has held this prominent position since the first race took place way back in 1997. He has also from day one held the very important position as the INTERNATIONAL RACE CO-ORDINATOR role for this truly international pigeon race, which is without doubt the greatest, biggest and most prestigious one-loft pigeon race in the world today. It is the race described as “THE OLYMPIC GAMES IN THE PIGEON WORLD” and “THE RACE WITH THE PROVEN TRACK RECORD” which is something AIR SPORT INTERNATIONALE who are The Presenters of this great race from day one are extremely proud of. We are now entering our 21st year and this outstanding international race has already paid out in excess of US$33 Million American Dollars (approx. £23 Million Pounds Sterling) in Prize Money and special awards to pigeon fanciers literally all over the world.

Virtually every year since the race started way back in 1997, the race entry records have been broken, in 2005 a total of 28 countries entered 5,096 pigeons, in 2006 a total of 28 countries entered 4,649 pigeons, in 2007 a total of 31 countries entered 4,936 pigeons, in 2008 a total of 26 countries entered 4,902 pigeons, in 2009 a total of 28 countries sent 5,576 pigeons, in 2010 a total of 32 countries entered 5,610 pigeons, in 2011 a total of 36 countries entered a staggering 6,611 pigeons and in 2012 a total of 36 countries entered way over 7,000 pigeons. Then the 2013 race exceeded 7,000 pigeons with the 2014 race once again exceeded 7,000 pigeons from 40 different countries. The 2015 race also had in excess of 7,000 pigeons entered, with over 5,000 pigeons entered into the 2016 race. The entry numbers are not currently available yet for the 2017 race because the shipping of the pigeons does not take place until the beginning and the end of May 2016. Once that these entries are known the final figures will be released by AIR SPORT INTERNATIONALE as and when all entries are settled into the brand new state of the art pigeon lofts situated at Heron Banks Golf & River Estate on the Vaal River, Sasolburg, Free State, South Africa for THE 21st SOUTH AFRICAN MILLION DOLLAR PIGEON RACE. This just goes to show pigeon fanciers from literally all over the world that this really is truly the biggest and greatest international one-loft pigeon race in the world today and the one that is the most prestigious and the one pigeon fanciers really want to enter and of course try to win.

It also has one of the most comprehensive, informative, up to date state of the art web site www.scmdpr.com in the world today, that exceeded 50 million “HITS” during the 2010/11 races series and then a staggering 70 million “HITS” during the 2011/12 race series. Figures exceeded 80 million “HITS” during the 2013/14 race series. The 2014/15 race series exceeded 80 million “HITS”. The final figures are not to hand yet for the 2015/16 race series but is expected that the figures will once again increase by a substantial figure and will probably once again exceed the 80 million “HITS” during the previous race season.

This international pigeon race started way back in 1997 and was then named THE WORLD FREE FLIGHT MILLION DOLLAR PIGEON RACE, then it was renamed THE SUN CITY MILLION DOLLAR PIGEON RACE and now it is known as THE SOUTH AFRICAN MILLION DOLLAR PIGEON RACE. It is well known from day one that AIR SPORT INTERNATIONALE have been The Presenters of this great race. Also the “RACE TEAM” has remained virtually the same for the past twenty years, with the only exception being new lofts managers and loft staff. However, it should be mentioned that Zandy Meyer (Race Director) sadly passed away in June 2013 but the race will of course continue to run as it was Zandy’s dream and vision and hopefully fanciers around the world will support this great race in future years. The first sixteen races were held in the fabulous Sun City Resort, South Africa and then a new loft site was found in Linbro Park, Sandton, Johannesburg, South Africa to host the new event and we were at this site for four years before we had to move because of massive industrial building all around the race lofts, which was interfering with the training of the pigeons. The 21st SAMDPR will be held at a brand new venue and the new state of the art racing loft will be built in the grounds of the outstanding Heron Banks Golf & River Estate (www.heronbanks.co.za) which is situated on the Vaal River, Sasolburg, Free State, South Africa. All the official functions will be held on the other side of the Vaal River at the fantastic Emerald Resort & Casino (www.emeraldcasino.co.za) which is situated in Vanderbijlpark, Gauteng, South Africa. Exciting times are ahead of us and this new loft site and venue will certainly benefit the pigeons and the pigeon fancier and friends that want to travel out to watch the Final Race actually unfold.

All the rules remain virtually the same and the total allocated prize money remains the same as printed on the Rules/Regulations Brochure on the www.samdpr.com website. Again there is a 2-Bird and a 3-Bird Average Competition in all the 5 Hot Spot Car Races. However, the Prize Money has changed slightly from the 20th SAMDPR and as you will see by studying the website and the Prize Money has once again been revamped and for THE 21st SOUTH AFRICAN MILLION DOLLAR PIGEON RACE and the actual prize money in the Final Race will now actually exceed US$1 Million American Dollars (£715,000 Pounds) for the second time and once again the FIRST PRIZE will be US$200,000 American Dollars (£143,000 Pounds), plus another 299 top cash prizes. Other new competitions and fantastic prizes have been added for this next race. All the current rules and regulations can be seen by logging onto the SAMDPR Website www.samdpr.com

THE 21st SOUTH AFRICAN MILLION DOLLAR PIGEON RACE will now be held on Saturday 4th February 2017 and will of course be the twenty-first year of this prestigious international pigeon race. There will also be some new competitions introduced during the 2016/17 race series, see www.samdpr.com for full details.

The brand new state of the art pigeon loft that will comfortably hold in excess of 10,000 pigeons and will be completely finished in plenty of time to be able to take in all the race entries for THE 21st SOUTH AFRICAN MILLION DOLLAR PIGEON RACE, which will take place on Saturday 4th February 2017. This race loft has been designed and built with 20 years of experience with this great one loft race. As soon as photographs are available of the new racing loft they will be placed on the SAMDPR Website www.samdpr.com for all to see.

Any other information you require about the race or holiday trips you should be able to find by logging onto the SAMDPR Website www.samdpr.com

The outstanding reputation that this truly international pigeon race has built up over the past twenty years, it really is second to none and is now one of the longest running one loft races in the world today and the one that has paid every bit of its allocated/projected prize money out every year since day one.

If you are genuinely interested then please contact Paul Smith at reglofts@aol.com and he will be only too pleased to give them any information they might require. So far over 50 different countries have entered pigeons in the past twenty races and the old saying will always be the more the merrier.

All the rules remain virtually the same and the total allocated prize money remains the same as printed in the new 2013/14 Rules/Regulations Brochure. Once again there is a new 3-Bird Average Competition in all the 5 Hot Spot Car Races. However, the Prize Money has changed slightly from the 17th SAMDPR and as you will see by studying the new 18th SAMDPR Rules/Regulations Brochure and this gives more prize money to the pigeons that finish further down in the top 300 positions. PRIZE MONEY has once again been revamped and for THE 19th SOUTH AFRICAN MILLION DOLLAR PIGEON RACE the actual prize money in the Final Race will now actually exceed US$1 Million American Dollars for the first time. Other new competitions and fantastic prizes have been added for this next race. This extra prize money has been achieved by a small increase in the entry fee, which is the first increase in the history of this great international race. All the current rules and regulations can be seen by logging onto www.samdpr.com

THE 20th SOUTH AFRICAN MILLION DOLLAR PIGEON RACE will now be held on Saturday 6th February 2016 and will aptly be named “THE PLATINUM EDITION” to represent 20 years of consecutive races. There will also be some new competitions introduced during the 2015/16 race series, see www.samdpr.com for full details.

The brand new state of the art pigeon lofts that will comfortably hold in excess of 10,000 pigeons and are now completely finished and all the entries for THE 20th SOUTH AFRICAN MILLION DOLLAR PIGEON RACE, which will take place on Saturday 6th February 2016 will of course be housed in these two magnificent lofts.
More alterations were carried out after the 2015 Final Race and that was to place a central trapping area so that when the pigeons trap over the electronic clocking pads they can then enter either of the two race lofts. This just goes to prove that they are always trying to improve things at the race lofts. Metal floor grids have also been placed throughout the two race lofts, plus plastic netting has been placed completely over the lofts, including the roofs so that pigeons can settle easier when they are finally let out. This just goes to show the reputation that this pigeon race has built up over the past nineteen years, it really is second to none and is now one of the longest running one loft races in the world today and the one that has paid every bit of its allocated prize money out every year since day one.
